To give in trust; to put into the hands or power of another; to entrust; with to.
Does this sound like you with Jesus?
What does the bible say about commitment?
1 Kings 8:61
Your hearts must be fully committed to the LORD our God, to live by His decrees and obey His Commands.
Doesn’t look like an option to me!
Must commit to avoid growing weary
Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (in order to not give up, we must be committed)
Look at the results of commitment!
2 Chronicles 15:7
Be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.
Psalm 37:5-6
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
Proverbs 16:3
Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.
If one is committed, they need to persevere, to endure. Do you?
What does it mean to endure?
The Greek definition is: ὑπομένω hupomenō 1) to remain
1a) to tarry behind
2) to remain, i.e. abide, not recede or flee
2a) to preserve: under misfortunes and trials to hold fast to one’s faith in Christ
2b) to endure, bear bravely and calmly: ill treatments
That is powerful!
What does the bible say about endure?
Paul says this:
2Timothy 2:3
Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
This is a powerful statement by Jesus:
Matthew 10:22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.
(Stands firm = endures)
Okay, what about persevere?
Hebrews 10:36
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
The power of perseverance:
1Timothy 4:16
Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
(WOW!)
James 1:12
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him
Keep in mind that when we accepted Jesus into our hearts, it was a package deal and part of that package was agape love, this love helps us in many areas of our walk with Jesus if we allow it to.
How often do we need to persevere?
1 Corinthians 13:6-7
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Without endurance, perseverance, one cannot commit. Many people struggle with commitments in their lives, if we can learn to truly commit our lives to Jesus, then the other commitments in our lives will fall into place.
